I can't believe I never knew how to do this until now! I've always fancied myself a pretty good "wrapper" of gifts...but making a gift bag out of wrapping paper takes it to a whole new level! This is so perfect for those odd shaped gifts that are hard to wrap! If you don't have a gift bag, now you can easily make your own!!
It's Christmas Eve...Eve today, so this might help you out with those last minute hard to wrap gifts!
Here's how...
Use a medium weight wrapping paper. Too light won't be strong enough, and too thick will be hard to work with.
Lay out some wrapping paper and measure the width of your gift(s) you want to put inside. Fold the edges into the center, overlapping slightly. Tape the seam completely closed.
Next, fold up the end. Again use your gift as a guide to make sure the size is right.
Now, open up the bottom, like this...
Crease the edges down, like this...(this is the fun, "origami" part)
Next, fold the tips down, overlapping slightly in the center...
Tape all the bottom seams, like this...
Taping all the seams will make your bag strong. Next, pop open your gift bag and trip the top if needed, leaving enough room to fold the edge down to close.
Fill your bag and now that you're feeling crafty...maybe try some homemade handles!? I haven't gotten that far yet, so I just folded the bag down, taped it close and put a bow on it!
Now you know how to make a gift bag out of wrapping paper! This would be fun to teach your kids! :) Pretty cool, huh? Give it a try!
