What to eat before and after a workout...

With the 7-MINUTE FITNESS CHALLENGE approaching this weekend, I got a GREAT question that I want to share with you because many of you might have the same question and it's SUCH great information to know...especially if you're new to working out! Here's the comment/question:

-"I am EXTREMELY excited to start the the 7 minute fitness challenge, and working my way to a healthier (more toned) me! What should I eat/drink before and/or after my workouts for the best results? I LOVE your blog and feel it has enhanced every aspect of my daily life. Thank you for your knowledge and commitment to making people HAPPIER every day."

Here's my response:

-Thank you so much for your comment and kind words! I am super excited too! What a GREAT question!! There is some controversy and different opinions on what to eat before and after a workout. These days, research on this subject changes quickly, so information can get “outdated”. I happen to be a fan of Jillian Michaels and therefore like to follow her advice. She recommends a small healthy snack of protein and carb 45 mins before a workout. She says you can get the best results by doing this. This would be something like a small protein shake, greek yogurt with berries or apple slices and almond butter. That way you’ll be fueled for this high intensity workout, without being too full. I would NOT recommend working out on a FULL stomach. Everyone is different with different body chemistry, so do what works for you. After the workout…it is important to eat another healthy snack of protein and carb within 30 minutes of your workout. This will help your muscles recover and “feed” your body to create lean muscle. I usually have a protein shake after a workout with high quality protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, and banana or berries. I aim for at least 25 grams of protein. “HIIT” workouts keep your metabolism going strong long after your workout ends so don’t worry too much about what you eat right after, just make sure you get that snack…and then eat more protein throughout the entire day! Keep yourself hydrated with water before and after your workout. I keep a glass of water near me during my workouts so I can take a sip here and there as I need it…but don’t drink A LOT before or during a workout so your stomach is full of water… I hope this helps EVERYONE out there! Again, thank for asking because it IS important to know!

Thank you so much for your questions/comments...as you can see, it helps ME to help YOU get the important information needed to get the MOST out of  this 7-Minute Workout!
